Telemarketing is the practice of selling goods or services over the telephone. Telemarketers can sell many things over the phone like magazine subscriptions, donations for charities and many other things. Many people do not like telemarketers to call them all of the time especially if they call at dinner time. Calling someone at that time is very rude. The Federal Trade Commission's rules define what telemarketers can and cannot do when calling. The telemarketers must:
- Provide you with their name
- Tell you what they are selling
- Tell you that it is a sales call
- Tell you the cost and any other terms before they make a payment for the goods or services that they are selling.
